The 2003 instance of the 'plan03' was themed by an ancient
sacral trail: The Via Sacra. mok to and friends extracted
an appropriate symbol language from colognes' urban structure.
Approach Taking on the task of planning the encounters
between man and architecture, we approached the project by creating
anchors on the trail throughout the city. No determined
course only more or less dense areas. The
systems' openness supports the unpredictability of human movement.

Solution While the 'Mystikons' act
like neuralgic spots they affect visitors and habitants
- and by chance they trigger discussion.
The 'Mystikons' draw in people, places and architecture. On a
symbolic level they are dubious: Acting as a simple sign, a Mystikon
marks the route, but for an insider it tells about the nearby
church and its vicinity. Following the tradition of the previous
'plan03' instances something endured the week of the event, and
carries the spirit of this architecture-centric week: The
Mysticons. They connected the current event with the upcoming
one throughout the year. And over time they fade away to the city's'
face, from where they emerged.

Result A navigational system was created
from the city's unique image: The 'Mysticons' - mysterious
icons - to guide visitors on this event through the cities urban
environment. Collateral material was produced, benches
taken from churches were disposed at major junctions and
human guides offered tours.
